Tanzania finalizes efforts to provide clean water services to its 1,575 villages

DUSHANBE: THE Tanzanian Water Minister, Jumaa Aweso, has reaffirmed his country’s commitment to expanding clean water access to citizens.

The minister made the statement when representing the Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba at the Fourth International Conference on Water and Sustainable Development in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.

Speaking at the global forum, Mr Aweso said Tanzania is finalising efforts to provide clean and safe water services to 1,575 villages out of 12,333 villages that are still without access to the service.

He stressed the importance of strengthening institutional capacity, adopting modern technologies, and exploring alternative financing sources to accelerate progress in the water sector.

The minister assured the international community that Tanzania’s National Water Policy of 2002 (revised 2025) and the Vision 2050 development framework have opened the door for greater private sector participation in water infrastructure and service delivery.
