The Frieze Provocation

I am woken by the rain. Today is the day I go to Frieze through a complimentary ticket from Outside In – an arts organisation that brings me much pleasure. They have suggested if any of the ticket holders happen to take photos to put them on instagram with the @….. So i take my camera.

Arriving on the Parkway I note what i presume is a George Harrison quote and somehow I determine to take Frieze on. Its them or me. A duel to the death. I am already annoyed by their website, the confused wording on the ticket and i go to Frieze masters by mistake. I now have to walk through Regent’s Park. It’s lovely.

Finally I’m at Frieze London and i enter the Marquee and find myself walking miles of aisles and attracted by some things and not by others. The old adage i might not know a lot about art but i know what i like rules the roost. I’m photographing eyes, squiggly lines, reflections, illusions, enjoying playing with my depth of field and circles and as a writer almost anything with words on it. Some sculptures too but only if i can juxtapose them with something else.

Outside I find myself on the sculpture trail. Its fun but i find myself interested in creating my own sculptures out of knobbly trees, plant life. I’m amused by art language. I take a picture of a Royal Parks litter bin – it evokes the dichotomy between those who have and those who don’t. I take a picture of a faded milestone that has transmogrified over time into not being a sculpture at all but points to the value of stone masonry all the same and therefore nods to commerce.

It’s baloney. Jusdge for yourself. My pictures are as good as the art work at the Frieze or am i just being provocative.
