Three business owners have been shot inside a popular fast food outlet in the Johannesburg inner city on Monday morning. The shooting happened in Ward 59, where local councilor Sthembiso Hlatshwayo says violent crime has become a weekly occurrence, with people being gunned down regularly in the precinct.

Hlatshwayo has now called for urgent intervention from law enforcement agencies, warning that businesses and residents in the inner city are living in constant fear as gun violence continues to escalate.
“Even yesterday, someone was shot on this very same street, which means four people have been shot and killed in this street in a space of hours. This raises serious concerns about safety. As a councilor I’ll have to look into this, working closely working with the police.”
