*Donald Trump’s social media activity has again drawn attention after he shared an AI-generated image of Jesus hugging him on his Truth Social account.
The post included Trump’s comment, “The Radical Left Lunatics might not like this, but I think it is quite nice!!!” The message quickly circulated online, adding to the ongoing debate over his use of AI-generated religious imagery, Times of India reports.
It follows earlier criticism over another AI-generated image posted by Trump that depicted him in a Christ-like role. The visual showed him appearing to heal a sick man with beams of light coming from his hands. The post drew backlash from both far-right Christian commentators, who called it blasphemous, and critics who described it as “egomaniacal behavior.”
Trump addressed the controversy, saying he believed the depiction had been misunderstood. He said, “I did post it, and I thought it was me as a doctor and it had to do with the Red Cross,” adding, “it’s supposed to me as a doctor, making people better. And I do make people better. A lot better.”
The latest post came amid a separate exchange between Trump and Pope Leo XIV linked to comments on the war in Iran. Trump criticized the Pope on Truth Social, questioning his positions on crime and foreign policy while referencing his own electoral mandate.
“Pope Leo is WEAK on Crime, and terrible for Foreign Policy,” Trump’s Truth Social post stated, per USA Today. “I don’t want a Pope who criticizes the President of the United States because I’m doing exactly what I was elected, IN A LANDSLIDE, to do … If I wasn’t in the White House, Leo wouldn’t be in the Vatican.”
Pope Leo XIV responded during remarks to reporters, addressing both Trump’s comments and his own role. He also called the platform name “ironic.”
“I have no fear with neither the Trump administration, nor speaking out loudly about the message of the Gospel,” he said. “I do not look at my role as being political, or politician. I don’t want to get into a debate with him. I don’t think that the message of the Gospel is meant to be abused in the way that some people are doing. And I will continue to speak out loudly against war, looking to promote peace.”
The exchange underscored contrasting positions, with Trump emphasizing political authority and the Pope stressing a religious mission focused on peace.
