Trump to Headline Freedom 250 Event After Artist Exits

A concert series tied to President Donald Trump’s push to celebrate America’s 250th birthday is losing momentum as several of its headline performers, and now Trump himself, are stepping into the spotlight.

Organizers with Freedom 250 announced that Trump will headline the opening ceremony for the Great American State Fair on June 24 in DC after a growing number of musicians publicly withdrew from scheduled performances on the National Mall.

Among those distancing themselves from the event are Martina McBride, Morris Day and The Time, Bret Michaels and rapper Young MC.

Most of the artists say they originally believed the concert was nonpartisan and later learned about the event’s direct ties to the Trump administration.

Trump responded to the backlash over the weekend by mocking performers who pulled out, saying they had the yips and suggesting a MAGA rally would draw a bigger crowd than what he called overpriced singers.
