Tshwane embarks on project to curb illegal connections
Unlawful connections have contributed to recurring power outages and damage to infrastructure.
The City of Tshwane says it will begin with its electricity project immediately to address ongoing illegal connections.
Tshwane MMC for Utility Services, Frans Boshielo, says this initiative focuses on settlements located in close proximity to existing electricity infrastructure where illegal connections have become widespread.
He says unlawful connections have contributed to recurring power outages, damage to infrastructure and serious safety risks.
“I am happy to announce that these kinds of connections that you are seeing around will be something of the past. The contractors will be starting tomorrow to ensure that these residents will be getting legal electricity supply.”
