By Breaking Belize News Staff: Two people are in police custody following a Sunday night shooting in Orange Walk that left one man hospitalized.
Police say Byron Diaz was inside a pickup truck with another man, identified during the briefing as Jian Wong, when they were approached by two men travelling on a motorcycle at around 11:30 p.m.
The assailants reportedly opened fire on the vehicle, injuring Diaz. He was transported to the hospital and was listed in stable condition at the time of Monday’s briefing. No injuries were reported for Wong.
Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a personal dispute involving Diaz and another man. Police said no previous report had been made regarding the dispute and there was no indication that the incident was drug-related.
Two people have been detained pending further investigation.
