Usimamane Reveals Why He No Longer Feels Comfortable Performing At Hip Hop Events. Usimamane has opened up about his growing preference for Amapiano performances, revealing deep discomfort with the atmosphere at many hip hop shows.

In candid remarks during an interview on The Agenda on YFM with Roiii and DJ Sliqe, the musician explained that the energy and connection at Amapiano events feel far more natural to him than the competitive tension he often encounters in hip hop circles.
The artist highlighted awkward interactions where fellow hip hop performers eye him strangely, behaving as if his style, ideas, or success somehow belong to them. “It’s like, hey, whatever that you got on is supposed to be mine and all of that,” he said. This sense of entitlement stands in stark contrast to their shared beginnings. “We all came up together, but now you’re on some other,” Usimamane observed, expressing disappointment in how relationships have evolved.
Despite the shifts in the scene, Usimamane maintains he has never viewed other artists as competition. He emphasised a desire to simply exist as a human being on stage without the underlying strange looks or territorial attitudes that make hip hop events feel unwelcoming.
As a result, the musician has grown increasingly selective about his live appearances. “I just don’t think I’m comfortable performing at these hip hop events,” he concluded, while affirming his enjoyment and comfort when performing for Amapiano crowds.
