Amus College School head coach Richard Malinga maintains he will not let the group stage performance at the ongoing USSSA U20 Boys Football Championship excite him.
His team was one of the few that sailed through the group phase with maximum points, collecting three wins in as many games. They defeated Trinity College Abilomo 4-0, edged Standard High School-Ndejje 1-0 before ending group business with a 4-1 win over Mukono Kings High School.
Despite this remarkable performance, Malinga is aware that the knockout stage is a whole different chapter that demands a shift in gears.
“I’m impressed with the performance with we have had so far, being able to win all our group games and going through as Group leaders but that is only the beginning,” Malinga stated after their win over Mukono Kings High School.
“We are not thinking ahead ourselves because the knockout is totally different. So we will take care every game as they come.” He added.
In Malinga, Amus College has a coach who knows what it takes to win the Championship, having guided Buddo SS to triumph last year in Ngora.
His return to Amus College this year is seen as an opportunity to break the barrier and etch their name on the winner’s list.
Amus College reached the final in 2024 in Masaka but lost 3-0 to St. Juliana. The ultimate target therefore, this year is to secure their maiden title.
At the round of 32, Amus College will face Jinja Progressive Academy on Friday at 11am at Lango College Playground.
