UPL match day 22 talking points: KCCA lose ground despite Vipers, Kitara dropping points

The top of the table clash between Vipers and Kitara ended with both dropping points while KCCA ceded more ground with defeat to SC Villa.

At the other end of the table, Calvary earned their first win of the season while UPDF moved up sending Buhimba into relegation.

We take a look at the three talking points from match day 22

Vipers, Kitara settle for a point in physical duel

The pre-match hype lived up to the billing in terms of contest on the pitch. The two teams fought for every ball in what turned out to be a physical battle.

There was not much goalmouth action from either side but in the end, points were shared leaving the title race evenly poised as four points separate first and second.

Has KCCA ceded ground in the race?

Heading into the game, KCCA had just been eliminated from the Stanbic Uganda Cup at the expense of URA.

They needed a win to take advantage of Vipers dropping points but against SC Villa, they were second best for most of the game and lost to a fantastic Hassan Mubiru wonder strike.

They are now six points behind Vipers in the race and only one ahead of SC Villa.

Their next four fixtures against Kitara, Calvary, Entebbe UPPC and Vipers will surely determine their season.

Calvary pick first win

After going twenty-one matches without a win, Calvary ended that unwanted run with a 2-0 home win over fellow newcomers Buhimba United Saints at Midigo Primary School, Grounds in Yumbe.

Eight points separate them from safety positions. With 24 points to fight for still, can they survive? We wait to see.
