The Walvis Bay church and biking communities are mourning the death of Petrus ‘Pietie’ Fox, a pastor who became known for linking ministry work with the local biking fraternity.
Fox died on 9 June at the age of 70.
He had been active for many years at Walvis Bay, where he was known both for his pastoral work and involvement with bikers at the coastal town.
Pastor JP Fourie of the Skeleton Coast Bikers Community Church and Christian Bikers Network Africa says Fox had been part of their journey since 2012 and describes him as “a faithful servant whose work left a lasting mark”.
He says Fox’s commitment to people, especially within the biking community, had shaped many lives over the years.
A funeral notice from the family says he will be remembered as a family man.
“We will celebrate his life and remember him as a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend to his family,” the notice reads.
Born on 8 April 1956, Fox spent much of his life in the ministry and with his community.
Members of the biking community have begun paying tribute, describing him as a figure who understood their lifestyle, playing a role in bringing faith into their lives.
The Skeleton Coast Bikers Community Church and Christian Bikers Network Africa says his ministry reached people beyond traditional church settings.
“More than a pastor, he was a biker, a brother and a shepherd with grease on his hands and Jesus in his heart,” their message reads.
The group says his influence will remain through the relationships he built and the role he played in connecting people across different backgrounds.
He is survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and extended family.
