Coco Jones wasn’t going to let a racist heckler ruin her New York Fashion Week experience. In a vlog posted to her YouTube channel on Oct. 20, the 28-year-old singer was captured arriving at the Tommy Hilfiger fashion show, where she briefly stopped for photographers to show off her fabulous outfit. However, the fashionable moment took an ugly turn when a heckler shouted that Jones was “so freaking Black.” You can watch the interaction start at the 6:13 minute mark in the video below.
Rather than let the racist remark get to her, Jones maintained her composure and continued posing for photographers, refusing to give the heckler the reaction they appeared to want.
“I’m Black and I’m proud,” the “ICU” singer declared, embracing her identity in the face of the offensive comment while eating up her photography moment with a few poses.

The racist heckler continued to escalate the situation, taunting Coco Jones by shouting “Ew” and calling her “Blackie.” Despite the woman’s repeated attempts to provoke her, Jones remained poised and continued showing off her fabulous outfit.
After posing for two more pictures, Jones began walking away. The woman shouted something else at the singer, although her words were inaudible in the video. Instead of responding with an insult or allowing the encounter to disrupt her day, Jones blew the stranger a kiss before moving on.
The singer handled the situation with grace, confidence and an unmistakable sense of self-assurance. If anything, Jones appeared unbothered by the exchange, refusing to let someone else’s prejudice dictate her experience. Jones told fans that she totally “ate” her Tommy Hilfiger appearance. She went on to attend a Chanel fashion show, changing into a stylish silver gown for the occasion.
