Maiden Hybrid Pareto league of Arumeru mixes sports and environment conservation

Soccer leagues can be used to promote environment conservation and protection of birds.

There is a new soccer league established on the foot of Mount Meru, in Arusha, Northern Tanzania, with its maiden outing named after pyrethrum.

Sounds strange? Well, it should.

The Pareto League is a hybrid event, mixing sports, youth’s meeting point, entertainment and environment conservation.

And despite the weird name, the Pareto League has already attracted eight teams with most of the matches being played at the Akeri Sports grounds in the Tengeru parts of Meru District.

One of the teams is carrying an important bird identification.

Teams participating in the Pareto League include the Akeri Football Club, Tengeru Soccer Club, Pareto Soccer Club and Poli Football Club.

Others participating in the league are Kuza Football Club, the Sura Football Club and the Leganga Sports Club.

But there is one team, which hails from Njiro, in the Themi Hills Ward of Arusha city which stands out from the pack.

This is the Lesser Flamingos Football Club, which is coincidentally named after Tanzania’s bird of the year.

Nature Tanzania, an organization which addresses the welfare of birds in the country is thus supporting the Lesser Flamingos football team as part of efforts in promoting the protection of aviary species in East Africa.

“We chose the Pink Flamingo identity to convey the notion of environment conservation and wildlife protection, but especially birds,” said the team captain.

But even the league itself treads along the same path.

“Pareto League is named after pyrethrum, a local crop to symbolize authenticity and indigenous roots,” explains Jordan Mosses, the coach of Pareto FC.

Mosses said the league is the first in Meru for over 10 years.

The coach said the league was hatched from the Pareto Sports Club (PSC) which attained the name after shifting base from Mlandizi, in Pwani (the coastal region), to Arusha.

“We are now settled in Arumeru to boost sporting activities around the district and already the league is brightening up the place,” he stated.

During one of the matches played at Akeri, Pareto FC faced the Lesser Flamingos 1-2

It was the ace player Manase Juhudi who scored the goal for the Lesser Flamingos while Khalid Mrisho Ngasa, did the wonders for Pareto FC.

In the previous match, Kuza Soccer Club faced Tengeru Training Center and the former beat the latter 3-0.
