It’s Panto Season and the fairytales have only just begun!

So, of course, this month’s theatre selection had to feature a healthy portion of pantomimes – a particular shout out to The Snowman and Ebony Scrooge at Sadler’s Wells and let’s not forget Jack and the Beanstalk at Lyric Hammersmith, Hackney Empires take on Cinderella and Mama Goose at Straford East.

Housemates Returns: Limp Wrist & The Iron Fist Written & produced by Emmanuel Akwafo. Director Nathanael Campbell

A defiant, tender and unflinching play exploring Black, Queer identity.

Set against the culturally rich and complex backdrop of London, follow four friends, Joseph, Monday, Nathaniel and Omari, as they navigate love, sexuality, faith and masculinity within a society that often silences and misrepresents them. With humour, heart and raw truth, Limp Wrist & The Iron Fist empowers young Black Queer people to embrace the fullness of who they are—culture, race, religion, body and soul.

Coven Directed by Miranda Cromwell

  1. Pendle, Lancashire. A witch hunt is raging and a 9-year-old Jenet accuses her own family of witchcraft. 21 years later, she finds herself imprisoned, surrounded by the most feared women in town. As the accuser becomes the accused, Jenet must confront a 250-year legacy of witchcraft and the dark secrets of her own past. As she listens to the shocking stories of the women around her, Jenet’s faith begins to crumble.

Maybe that’s what cooking is, you know. Home in a pocket.

Ty, Leroy, and Daniel have signed up for a new Caribbean cooking group. It’s led by their Occupational Therapist, Naomi, who really needs it to go well. Believing in the healing power of food, Naomi is brimming with plans to evoke memories of Sunday dinners at home with family, to get the men to talk, share, and create something special.

But when you’re locked in a secure hospital, too much food for thought can be a bad thing.

Each Sunday, the hospital is transformed by the smells and flavours of home, and together the four embark on a challenging journey of self-discovery, where it’s not just the pans that threaten to boil over. As the heat in the kitchen rises, the group is forced to reckon with uncomfortable truths – not only about who they really are, but also to face what they did that led them to become trapped within the system.

The Dream: A Windrush Journey By Nnenna Samson-Abosi directed by Fran Olivares

This timely revival brings to life the struggles, resilience, and activism of the Windrush generation in late 1960s and early 1970s Britain.

At its heart, The Dream follows Delvin, a Black British teenager whose coming of age is shaped by the realities of police brutality and the rise of the Black Power Movement. The production has been made possible through the support of Black Lives Matter and The Windrush Fund.

With a cast and creative team largely comprising members of the global majority, the play sheds light on an essential chapter of British history- one that deeply resonates within today’s political and social landscape.

The locket her Mother gave to her – the day she started her period – clings like a curse, whispering warnings that Bex constantly ignores. As her grip on reality unravels, Bex circles the same stories about wolves, witches and wanking, each one darker than the last. Will she ever break the loop? Or will she disappear into fantasy forever?

Join local lass Mama Goose and her magical golden-egg-laying goose in Stratford this holiday season!

Will Mama Goose be able to resist the temptations of fame and fortune, or will she learn that the best things in life are free?

The Snowman

A boy in pyjamas, slippers and red plaid dressing gown holds the hand of a tall snowman with a grey hat and scarf around his neck, a carrot for his nose. They step through the air, a snowy planet far beneath them and white, snowladen pine trees on either side.

This winter family favourite is the heartwarming tale of a boy, and a snowman who comes to life.

All My Sons

Respected, self-made businessman Joe prides himself on providing for his wife and their two sons.

While wartime delivers profits for the family, it comes at a price when his partner is charged with criminal manufacturing deals, and his eldest son goes missing in action.

Peacetime brings little peace of mind as Joe’s true involvement in the activity begins to surface, and he is suddenly confronted by the consequences of his actions.

It’s Jack and Jill’s first day at Fleshcreep Academy, the strictest school in Hammersmith, and there’s trouble brewing. Not only is their mum the chaotic new dinner lady but the headteacher has pupils on a tight leash: just three strikes and it’s off to the giant, whatever that means. This place could do with some magic – but where is Fairy Godfather hiding? Get ready for the climb of the lifetime as Jack reaches new heights to bring joy back to West London!

An imposing central figure is dressed in an extravagant black and white costume. She has a black top hat and a floor-length cloak with large, pointed shoulders. Around her are four other figures – two dressed in blue, one in red and one in yellow.

Meet Ebony, the formidable mastermind behind a renowned fashion empire. Everyone’s nightmare boss, she’s cancelled Christmas for her landmark fashion show. Surrounded by wealth, style and success, she’s about to embark on a transformative journey accompanied by three mystical visitors. As she rediscovers her Caribbean roots, will Ebony discover the true meaning of happiness?

The BFG Starring John Leader

While other giants wreak havoc on the world, the BFG ignites Sophie’s imagination, and they devise a daring plan to save children everywhere. In the end, the smallest human bean and the gentlest giant prove that a dream can change the world.
