Yungboyvegeta Opens Up About His New Approach To Making Music. South African rapper Yungboyvegeta, born Lebogang, is taking a more deliberate approach to his music as he enters a new chapter of his artistic journey.
The Ladysmith-born artist recently opened up about his slower release schedule, revealing that almost a year has passed since he released a full body of work. During that time, he has put out just two songs, but he made it clear that the limited output does not reflect a lack of creativity. Instead, he has been taking more time to carefully shape the music he wants to release. “It’s been almost a year without me dropping a body of work with only 2 songs throughout the year, not because I stopped making music but because I became very much intentional towards these records,” he explained.
At 24, Yungboyvegeta said his creative priorities have changed. He is now thinking beyond the immediate moment and wants to make records that will still mean something to him years from now. “I’m 24 years old now and I figured I’m tryna make music that I’ll be able to listen to when I’m 34,” he shared, explaining that the shift has pushed him towards being more realistic and open in his songwriting.
That change has also forced the rapper to look at his older material differently. While he does not necessarily dislike the music he made in the past, he admitted that he rarely goes back to it because he has grown beyond some of those earlier ideas and perspectives.
Much of that growth has gone into his upcoming project. Yungboyvegeta said he has been intentional about finding the right sound while creating music that reflects his emotions more honestly. The process has required him to confront feelings that were previously difficult to put into words and develop the confidence to express them through his craft.
“It took me a lot of self-esteem to create with what was so hard for me to express,” he said. “It took a lot of growing up to make this kinda music I won’t lie and hopefully someone will press play 10 years later and feel how I felt when I listened to the final product.”
Signed simply “Lebogang,” the personal reflection offered fans a glimpse into the mindset behind his current creative direction. Rather than measuring his progress by how frequently he releases music, the rapper appears more focused on making work that feels genuine and carries meaning beyond its initial release.
Known for projects including the Yungboy’s Revenge series and Umfana Omncane, Yungboyvegeta is now entering a phase where personal growth appears to be at the centre of his music. His latest comments suggest that the next project will be less about keeping up with the pace of the industry and more about documenting who he is at this point in his life.
