An early morning vehicle checkpoint in Bendals on Thursday morning has resulted in the seizure of a firearm and the arrest of two individuals on suspicion of unlicensed firearm and ammunition possession.
According to reports, the operation was conducted at the junction of Bendals Main Road and Bathlodge, beginning at approximately seven o’clock in the morning.
Reports are that several persons and vehicles were stopped and searched during the operation. A silver Mazda motor truck was stopped and searched. A firearm, along with several matching rounds of ammunition were reportedly found inside the vehicle and seized for investigation purposes.
According to sources, the two adult occupants of the vehicle, a 32-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, both of Bendals, were arrested and taken to the St John’s Police Station, along with the seized items. A young child, who was also in the vehicle, was not implicated.
. The operation concluded at approximately 11:15 that morning after the scene was processed by a member of the Firearms and Evidence Recovery Unit.
