CHRONIC offender Anthony Chica Ibeh, 35, has been arrested by Transit Police and charges of theft over $5,000 have been approved by the BC Prosecution Service.
On July 14 just before 7:30 p.m., Transit Police were notified via SMS text of a shoplifting in progress inside Metropolis at Metrotown shopping centre in Burnaby by retail staff. The suspect, Ibeh, was observed selecting and concealing multiple pairs of designer sunglasses. Ibeh, didn’t pay for the sunglasses and instead exited the business, making his way to Metrotown SkyTrain Station where he boarded a train.
Metro Vancouver Transit Police officers quickly located Ibeh on board a SkyTrain and arrested him without incident. Twenty-three pairs of sunglasses, valued at $7,074 were located. Ibeh was held in custody and released the following morning, pending his next court date.
“Transit Police works with loss prevention officers, and law enforcement partners to hold accountable anyone who engages in criminal activity on or around the transit system,” said Constable Amanda Steed.
