5.6-magnitude earthquake rocks Saint Lucia

A 5.6-magnitude earthquake rocked Saint Lucia on Friday, January 2. 

According to preliminary reports from the University of the West Indies’ Seismic Research Centre, the quake struck at 5:38 p.m. at a depth of 30.4 kilometres, with its epicentre located approximately 65 kilometres northeast of Fort-de-France, Martinique. 

The effects of the earthquake were felt in areas including Ciceron, Castries, and Gros Islet. 

This follows a 3.5-magnitude earthquake off the coast of Guadeloupe, which took place just after midnight on New Year’s Day.
