74-year-old Mama Bee has spent a lifetime seeing the needs of the forgotten. Now, she needs a little help to see the world clearly again.

KwaNyuswa, South Africa (09 April 2026) – Some people seem to have been born with a natural calling to give and care for others. Beatrice Mkhize, fondly known to everyone as Mama Bee, is truly one of those rare souls.

After spending 30 years working as a dedicated caregiver, she decided to do even more: to build an old-age home on her family’s KwaNyuswa land in 2011.

With years of experience and a heart that truly beats for others, Mama Bee created Thembelisha Care Centre: a humble, safe haven for 24 elders with various disabilities, as well as many orphaned children she lovingly raises in her own home.

At 74 years old, Mama Bee has devoted her life to caring for others. Her life is a testament to giving without expecting anything in return.

When asked what she would like for herself, she simply said:

“I have everything I need.”

But when asked what brings her joy, her answer was heartwarming:

“Reading my Bible.”

However, lately, this simple joy has been made difficult due to her deteriorating eyesight. Realising the negative impact this has on her and those who rely on her, the Robin Hood Foundation SA has stepped in to help.

“This April, we are hoping to spoil Mama Bee with a new pair of glasses so she can continue to read her Bible and find strength in the Word,” the Foundation said.

The support forms part of the Robin Hood Foundation’s Care for the Caregivers campaign, where they honour a person or team who gives their time and heart to a cause or organisation for every month in 2026 – returning a little of the care they pour out into the world.

The public is invited to help a selfless caregiver who never asks or expects anything in return. If you are an optician or a sponsor who can help Mama Bee see clearly again and continue her incredible work in her home, please reach out to Charlotte by emailing info@robinhoodfoundation.co.za.

“Let’s give back to someone who has given so much to so many.”
