African Stars have extended their lead atop the Namibia Premier Football League, moving to 45 points after thrashing Tigers 6-2, boosting their goal difference to +21 after 22 matches.
Second-placed Eeshoke Chula Chula sit four points behind, having edged Rundu Chiefs 1-0 but losing 1-0 to Julinho Athletic on Saturday.
FC Ongos were the weekend’s biggest movers, rising from fourth to third. They beat Life Fighters 2-0 on Saturday and drew 0-0 with Mighty Gunners on Sunday. Speaking after the win, coach Ronnie Kanalelo said: “An away win, 2-0, very disciplined. They came at us when we were 1-0 up, but we kept our discipline and got the second goal in front of their home supporters.”
He attributed the performance to the team’s training.
“This whole week we’ve been working on counter-attacks… making runs forward, creating space in the middle for the midfielders. It’s all about positional play. If you have a good structure, we make it difficult for the opponents.”
Mighty Gunners slipped to fourth on 35 points after a 2-1 loss to Unam FC.
Mid-table sees KK Palace climb to fifth with 32 points following a 3-0 win over Rundu Chiefs and a draw with Julinho Athletic. Unam dropped to sixth despite increasing their tally to 31 points. Eleven Arrows moved to seventh on 29 points after a 2-1 loss to Okahandja United, which was followed by a 1-0 win over Bucks Buccaneers. Khomas Nampol are eighth on 28 points.
At the lower end, Blue Waters moved to 12th with 25 points after a 1-1 draw with Bucks Buccaneers and a 2-0 win over Okahandja United, who now sit 13th on 22 points. The relegation zone remains unchanged: Rundu Chiefs 14th (20 points), Tigers 15th (19), and Life Fighters bottom on 17 despite a weekend win over Unam FC.
