Mexico head coach Javier Aguirre has announced a 12-man preliminary squad made up entirely of domestic league players as preparations begin for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The selected players, all drawn from Liga MX clubs, will report for a training camp starting on May 6.
They are expected to be joined by eight additional league-based players as Mexico steps up plans for the tournament they will co-host alongside United States and Canada.

Several of the called-up players are set to miss the Liga MX playoffs, which begin on Saturday.
Their absence could affect clubs including Cruz Azul, Club América, Pumas UNAM, Guadalajara and defending champions Toluca.
According to the Mexican Football Federation, the 12 players named are among those being seriously considered for places in the final World Cup squad.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup begins on June 11, with Mexico opening their Group A campaign against South Africa.
Before the tournament starts, Mexico will play a series of warm-up matches against Ghana on May 22, Australia on May 30, and Serbia on June 4.
Aguirre is expected to reveal his final squad on June 1.
