Appeals Court Rules Trump Administration Can Replace Slavery Exhibit

(AURN News) — An appeals court ruled that the Trump administration can remove and replace the slavery exhibit at the President’s House site in Philadelphia, where President George Washington lived, according to ABC News.

The outdoor memorial, “From Enslavement to Emancipation,” tells the stories of the nine people enslaved by Washington.

The ruling overturns a February decision that ordered the National Park Service to restore panels removed from the site.

The Interior Department claimed the panels “disparage” Americans, while critics argue the changes erase and sanitize history.

Philadelphia sued, arguing that the removal violated federal law and a 2006 agreement with the city.

The appeals court said the city had standing to sue, but its claims lacked merit. The outdoor memorial has been in place since 2010.
