Senegal Secures $300m Cybastion Commitment for Digitalisation Projects

Senegal has secured a commitment from US cybersecurity company Cybastion  to mobilise approximately $300 million for digitalisation projects as President Bassirou Diomaye Faye seeks to attract new technology investment to the country.

President Faye received a delegation from Cybastion, led by Chairman and CEO Dr Thierry Wandji, in Washington on September 14, 2026, during the first day of his working mission to the United States. The meeting formed part of the President’s engagements with the private sector ahead of scheduled discussions with the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.

The proposed financing will support several digital infrastructure and technology initiatives identified as priorities by the Senegalese government. These include cybersecurity and the fight against cybercrime, data centre development, technology transfer and national capacity building.

Cybastion’s programme will also involve Senegal’s technology ecosystem. Several local start-ups are expected to be selected to participate in the implementation and development of the projects, with the aim of strengthening the capabilities of Senegalese technology companies and retaining a greater share of the value generated by the investments within the country.

The Senegalese government expects the initiatives to contribute to the wider digital transformation of the country by improving digital public services, strengthening protection of personal data and creating opportunities for skilled employment among young people.

The programme is also expected to support Senegal’s efforts to strengthen technological sovereignty and develop a more competitive domestic digital ecosystem capable of attracting further investment.

During the meeting, President Faye emphasised the government’s focus on partnerships that generate economic value while maintaining national control over development priorities. He highlighted Senegal’s natural resources, human capital and institutions as assets that the country intends to leverage to attract long-term investment.

The engagement with Cybastion was followed by meetings with the United States Chamber of Commerce and the Corporate Council on Africa, as the Senegalese government seeks to deepen ties with US businesses and identify new investment opportunities.

The US mission is part of President Faye’s broader efforts to attract investment, strengthen Senegal’s economic partnerships and support the country’s digital and economic development.
