Jurgen Montoute will be the next mayor of Gros Islet.
The announcement was made in a social media post by Member of Parliament for Gros Islet, Kenson Casimir, on Wednesday morning.
“31-year-old Jurgen Montoute, who is originally from Marie Therese Street, will be sworn in with a new council next week,” Casimir said, noting that Montoute would become the youngest mayor in Saint Lucia’s history.
The announcement was met with an outpouring of congratulatory messages.
Montoute also acknowledged the appointment in a social media post, expressing his eagerness to serve communities across the Gros Islet constituency.
“Truly humbled for the opportunity to serve the town and constituency that has shaped who I am today,” he wrote. “I look forward to collaborating with the other members of the constituency council, the staff and Kenson Casimir as we strive for excellence in service to the constituency of Gros Islet and each of its communities!”
He is the son of former Gros Islet parliamentary representative Lenard Spider Montoute, who represented the constituency for the United Workers Party from 2006 to 2011 and again from 2016 to 2021.
