Operations Manager

Salary: £40.000 – £47.000 per annum pro rata (depending on experience), actual salary range is £24,000- £28,200)

The Black, African and Asian Therapy Network (BAATN) is the UK’s largest community of counsellors and psychotherapists of Black, African, Asian and Caribbean heritage and has a strong presence within the therapy profession and mental health arena.
Established in 2003, BAATN has worked to increase access to culturally sensitive therapy and mental health support, offering professional development, events, and resources that promote healing, wellbeing, and connection across our communities.
The new Operations Manager role is part of BAATN’s evolving leadership framework that seeks to decentralise decision-making and support succession planning. This is an exciting opportunity to join us and help lay the foundations of BAATN for many years to come.

Key Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Oversee BAATN’s day-to-day operations, ensuring smooth delivery of services, events and programmes.
- Support the Director in defining and operationalising BAATN’s strategic direction and transition planning.
- Lead the design and implementation of operational systems, policies and processes that promote efficiency and accountability.
- Manage relationships with contractors, suppliers, vendors and external stakeholders to ensure high-quality service delivery.
- Oversee financial management, budgeting and monitoring in collaboration with the Director and finance partners.
- Lead on recruitment, induction, appraisals, and wellbeing support for the operations team.
- Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, GDPR and safeguarding requirements.
- Maintain awareness of risk management, encouraging a culture of learning and continuous improvement.
About You

Essential skills and experience:
- Proven experience in operations or service management within a charity, social enterprise, community or wellbeing organisation.
- Strong financial literacy, able to manage budgets and plan resources effectively.
- Excellent organisational and systems improvement skills, with the ability to streamline processes.
- Experience managing people and fostering collaboration and accountability.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
- Ability to plan, prioritise and make sound decisions in a dynamic environment.
- Familiarity with therapeutic, counselling or wellbeing services.
- Collaborative, inclusive and respectful, you value listening, compassion and shared learning.
- Adaptable and resilient, able to balance strategic vision with day-to-day operations.
- Flexibility to support being on-call in emergency situations and occasional weekends.
Desirable skills and knowledge:
- Experience in governance, monitoring, evaluation and report writing.
- Confidence in using digital tools and platforms to manage projects and data.
- Knowledge of GDPR, Health & Safety and safeguarding frameworks.
- Experience in promoting organisational visibility through digital and social platforms.
