BlackNews.uk Official Opinion on Dr Tony Sewell CBE BlackNews.uk is scathing in its opinion of the lead author of the Commission on Race and Ethnic disparities report published March 2021, namely Dr Tony Sewell CBE. We believe he opted/sold out years ago whilst at the Voice newspaper where he used to spout the same disregard, disrespectful and inflammatory opinions regarding black family breakdown and place blame squarely on them for any negative outcomes and failures within ...the black communities. We perceive this has always been motivated by his sense of grandiose in the hope of someday receiving a peerage. Such is his lack of credibility on matters pertaining to black issues, we would go as far as to say ideally he should be stripped of his unworthy Doctorate, but we’re happy for him to keep his Commander Of the Empire (CBE) hopefully to remind him what a total sell-out he has become in the eyes of Black community! As we look at racism in the UK in addressing the report, we also note what a parody it makes of what inspired the actual commission of the report, which was the George Floyd/BLM Marches World Wide! BlackNews.Uk believes this report only gives weight to the UK Government’s lack of current or future action on institutionalised racism and fear like many within the black community that more injustices will indeed be the result. Instead BlackNews.Uk and our readers feel there is little real equality, and moreover feel this report may only lead to negative discussions of why injustices will continue to prevail. BlackNews.UK believes that its imperative that we the black community, keep discussions alive on discrimination against women, ethnic minorities , those that practice religious beliefs and around sexual orientation all of which require equality, fairness, and inclusion which we think the report fails to address authentically. Yes, we have long known that socio economic factors play a part in all these issues, so we can all agree that. Then let’s also acknowledge a UK/world where equalities simply do not exist, so we often find ourselves pondering the rights and wrongs of our society. Blacknews.uk has spoken with many notable individuals regarding the report and the unanimous response was it felt like a major let down! Especially by insisting that you ( Dr Sewell) and your peers had somehow cured racism in a private room somewhere was an insult to all in the black community! Similar to when we first saw the video of George Floyd’s murder, a numbness followed by disbelief replaced by compassion which quickly turned to anger overcame us! This outrageous report was forced onto us, and like our memories of that video, will not easily be forgiven or forgotten. With this report you failed us, in fact you dragged us to a past and place designed for us to feel and fear again. We can only suppose this report has affirmed why people outside the black community fail to understand why a black man in handcuffs should pose a threat to several policemen by reaffirming there is nothing to see here! Any race problem is just the proverbial “chip on our shoulder” As part of the black community we feel your report, much like the George Floyd situation that inspired it, is profoundly sad, gruesome and suffocating. We all realised that George Floyd had somehow ceased to exist as a single individual, but had somehow become, yours and our sons, grandsons, father, brothers, nephews, friends, neighbours, our ancestors and now thanks to your report, disregarded descendants!! Many experienced fear and anxiety by the cruelty, and felt a profound sense of loss. There was one instance in the now infamous video where the perpetrator looked towards the left carelessly, exhibiting implicit bias, lack of fear and the look of defiance which was enough to tell the onlookers that regardless of what they thought, there was nothing they could do about it. In that look, one could read gloating, self-assurance and satisfaction. Just like the outcome of this report it was self-serving! Please Dr Sewell remember... During those officially reported 9.29 minutes, the callousness of one individual, while slowly squeezing the life from the victim, showed no compassion, no humanity and no fear or restraint!! This is what your report has also achieved with contributors to it, instantly handing in letters distancing themselves to Number 10. With the Runnymead Trust’s instant damnation, among so many others this was almost like the proposal for the European Super League! Everyone apart from you and the government saw it for what it is, a SxxT report!!! There is no certainty that you like the perpetrator of George Floyds now proven murder will ever acknowledge what either you or he did to set back race relations. Did you, like him, actually realise that you represent the invaders, merchants, ship captains, masters and owners of the black bodies? Do you understand then with the release of this report, or does he understand now, that you are both and will continue to be the impersonation of every law enforcement personnel, who murdered our young men and sometimes women with impunity? That you have become every racist who offensively and without provocation shout “nigger” That you embolden every neighbourhood that finds you unwelcome, because your type will not fit in? Do you now realise that he is the potential employer who, regardless of your qualifications finds that, you are not the right colour? . Justice must be served, if we are to move forward. We cannot do so, if at every attempt, there is someone or something like this report or Chauvin who holds us down and strangles us, and ultimately drags us back to the past. We cannot pull ourselves up by our boot strings, if every time we achieve a pair, it is stolen from us with reports like this! We almost cannot realistically progress in this century, if we are pushed back constantly by injustices to live in past centuries by falsely believing we live in a white harmonious example of an integrated society, where black people are still expected to silently bend backwards to fit in!!! We cannot therefore get time to heal, neither forgive and forget if the same atrocities are being repeated time and time again and reports like this undermines and disregards our experiences and grievances? So we pose a final question to you Dr Sewell, should the black man in the UK fear the white man? Or are we at the stage where the white man acknowledges they are the ones who are the problem, they benefit from white privilege and instead of upholding that unjust racial construct that requires black men fear them, you use the platform you have to talk truth to power and call a spade a spade instead of dressing it up as a shovel? Racism is alive and well in the UK Dr Sewell, and if you have anything to do with it, it will remain so.
