With their nearest World Championship rivals Argentina unable to secure a quarterfinal spot and Australia knocked out in the round of eight, all the Blitzboks needed to do to secure the World Championship, was to beat Fiji in their quarterfinal match.
It was sweet revenge following defeat earlier in the day, with South Africa recording a come-from-behind 14-12 win over the Pacific Islanders.
They will play France in the semi-finals on Sunday.
