Carnival’s Celebration Key Just Doubled Its Capacity, And It’s About to Welcome 3.5 Million Cruise Passengers

Carnival Corporation’s fast-growing private destination in The Bahamas just reached another milestone, and it’s one that could have a major impact on Caribbean cruise vacations over the next several years.

The company has completed a major expansion of the pier at Celebration Key on Grand Bahama (which opened last year) doubling the destination’s docking capacity and paving the way for significantly more cruise calls beginning this fall.

The expansion adds two new berths to the original pier that opened with Celebration Key in July 2025, allowing the destination to accommodate up to four cruise ships at the same time. That means more than 13,000 cruise passengerscan now visit Celebration Key in a single day.

The project was completed ahead of schedule, giving Carnival Corporation additional flexibility as demand for Caribbean cruises continues to climb.

The timing is significant. Celebration Key has quickly become one of the most important destinations in Carnival Corporation’s Caribbean network, and the new infrastructure positions it for another major jump in visitor numbers during its second year of operation.

A Bigger Role in Caribbean Cruising

The expanded pier is expected to unlock approximately 200 additional ship calls every year, along with roughly 700,000 more passenger visits annually.

By the time Celebration Key celebrates its first anniversary on July 19, the destination is expected to have welcomed approximately 2.5 million visitors. During its second year, that figure is projected to rise to about 3.5 million.

The additional berths also allow Carnival Corporation to spread arrivals more efficiently across its growing fleet.

Currently, 20 Carnival Cruise Line ships sailing from 10 U.S. homeports include Celebration Key on their itineraries.

Beginning in September, three-ship and four-ship days are expected to become routine, marking another step in the destination’s rapid expansion.

Later this year, Princess Cruises and AIDA Cruises will also begin calling at Celebration Key, making it one of the few destinations shared across multiple Carnival Corporation brands.

What You’ll Find at Celebration Key

Celebration Key was designed exclusively for Carnival Corporation passengers and is built around a series of distinct neighborhoods the company calls experience portals.

Among its signature features are a mile-long white-sand beach, expansive waterfront recreation areas and what Carnival says are the largest freshwater lagoons in the Caribbean.

The destination was created to offer a full beach day in The Bahamas while giving visitors multiple ways to spend their time, whether that means relaxing by the water, enjoying family-friendly attractions or spending the day at adults-focused areas.

Its opening represented one of the biggest private destination investments ever made by a cruise company in The Bahamas.

A Growing Economic Engine for Grand Bahama

The expansion also continues to deepen Celebration Key’s economic role on Grand Bahama.

Bahamian officials said the additional cruise capacity is expected to create more opportunities for local businesses, entrepreneurs and tourism workers while supporting long-term economic growth on the island.

According to an economic impact study by Tourism Economics, the development, construction and ongoing operation of Celebration Key is projected to create more than 2,500 direct Bahamian jobs over the coming decades.

The same study estimates the project will generate approximately $3.2 billion in incremental government revenue while contributing an estimated $9.7 billion in additional gross domestic product over the next 20 years.

Those figures make Celebration Key one of the largest tourism investments currently operating in The Bahamas.

Part of a Much Bigger Caribbean Strategy

Celebration Key is also becoming one of the centerpieces of Carnival Corporation’s broader Caribbean strategy.

It is one of seven exclusive destinations that make up the company’s Paradise Collection, alongside RelaxAway, Half Moon Cay in The Bahamas, Princess Cays in The Bahamas, Amber Cove in the Dominican Republic, Grand Turk Cruise Center in Turks and Caicos, Puerto Maya in Cozumel and Isla Tropicale in Roatan.

Together, those destinations allow Carnival Corporation to offer more itineraries built around ports that it owns or operates, giving cruise passengers experiences designed specifically for its brands while expanding capacity across the region.

For anyone planning a Carnival cruise to The Bahamas over the next year, the expansion means one thing above all else: Celebration Key is about to become an even bigger part of the Caribbean vacation experience.
