Chameleone’s son arrested in US over domestic assault claim

The 20-year-old son of Ugandan musician Joseph Mayanja, popularly known as Jose Chameleone, has been arrested in the United States over an alleged domestic assault.

Abba Marcus Mayanja was taken into custody by Edina Police in Minnesota on August 14, according to booking information circulated by a Minneapolis area crime alert platform.

Mayanja is listed in the booking record as facing a misdemeanor domestic assault allegation involving conduct allegedly intended to cause fear of immediate bodily harm or death.

The record shows that he was being held on a $10,000 bail or bond.

The arrest adds a new twist to earlier allegations of violence involving Mayanja and his pregnant partner, identified in Ugandan entertainment reports as Angel.

In May, Angel publicly accused Mayanja of physically assaulting her during a dispute, allegations that the young musician denied.

The couple had earlier publicly announced that they were expecting a child, with Angel appearing in public with a visible baby bump.

Mayanja, however, rejected the assault allegations, saying claims circulating on social media were false.

It remains unclear whether the latest arrest is connected to the allegations made in May or whether the complainant in the new case is his pregnant partner.

The booking information available so far does not provide details about what allegedly happened before Mayanja’s arrest or identify the person involved in the complaint.

The case is recorded as Domestic Assault – Misdemeanor, but no detailed police account of the circumstances leading to the arrest had been made available by the time of publication.

Mayanja’s arrest comes as the young member of the Mayanja family continues to attract public attention, partly because of his association with his father, one of Uganda’s most prominent musicians.
