Cheers to that! Carly Fields completes her 8th Comrades Marathon
One step closer to green! TV and radio personality Carly Fields downed a beer after crossing the finish line at the Comrades Marathon.
Carly Fields toasted her latest ultramarathon feat – completing the Comrades Marathon – with a well-deserved beer!
The TV and radio personality was amongst 22 000 runners who ran the 85,7 km race.
This year, the marathon was uphill – from Durban to Pietermaritzburg.
George Kusche clinched the gold medal for the men, while Gerda Steyn was the top female runner.
CARLY FIELDS RUNS 8TH COMRADES MARATHON
On Sunday, Algoa FM presenter Carly Fields successfully completed her 8th Comrades Marathon.
The former Yo-TV child star finished the race in just over 10 hours, securing a bronze medal.
Her husband, film producer Fredick Louw, posted pictures of her achievement, as well as the blonde woman enjoying a well-deserved beer after crossing the finish line.
Carly’s Comrades achievement comes just months after she completed the 42,2km Outeniqua Marathon and the 50km NMB Gqeberha Ultra.
Carly – an avid ultramarathon runner – completed the Comrades Marathon, ran her first Comrades in 2017, and did a virtual run in 2021 amid the Covid-19 lockdown.
CROSSING THE FINISH LINE
Carly Fields was one of several high-profile individuals who ran the Comrades Marathon.
Some famous faces included journalist Redi Tlhabi, Deputy Minister of Public Works and Infrastructure Sihle Zakalala, Deputy Minister of Finance David Masondo and DIRCO Deputy Alvin Botes.
COMRADES MARATHON IN NUMBERS
Around 20 000 individuals from 75 countries around the world started the Comrades Marathon on Sunday. The exact number of those who completed the race is still being tallied.
5774 runners were novices, and just over 2000 were green number participants, who had run over 10 races.
The average age of participants is 44 years, and the average time to finish is between 10 and 11 hours.
The 2026 race sold out in less than one day, the fastest sell-out in Comrades history.
Next year will mark the 100th edition of the Comrades Marathon – a down run from Pietermaritzburg to Durban.
