By Breaking Belize News Staff: Police have formally arrested and charged a 26-year-old San Lazaro Village farmer in connection with the murder of Virginio Carrillo.
Christian Navel Velasquez was charged with murder on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, following investigations into Carrillo’s killing two days earlier in the Orange Walk District.
Carrillo, a 68-year-old watchman, was found with multiple chop wounds along a sugar road near San Lazaro Village on the morning of Monday, July 13. Initial investigations indicated that he was riding his bicycle home from his farm when he was ambushed and fatally attacked. Police recovered a machete and two bicycles from the area.
Velasquez is expected to be arraigned before the court on the murder charge.
