The City of Chamblee’s annual summer concert series kicks off in June, and this year, the city is celebrating Juneteenth by bringing some Beyoncé energy to the mix. The series, which features six bands, three nights of music, and a fireworks show, is one of Chamblee’s signature summer events that brings in thousands of people every year.
“The summer concert series for the city of Chamblee has been around for 30 to 40 plus years, and as the community has grown, we’ve also shifted our focus on a lot of events to focus on just that — our community and the representation of our community,” said Brittney Lindsay, the City of Chamblee’s community engagement director.
The first concert will take place on June 12, where attendees can enjoy a tribute to Beyoncé’s musical journey and evolution, featuring powerhouse vocals, choreography, and stunning visuals to accompany her biggest hits from her era in Destiny’s Child to her iconic solo career. This will be the city’s second year hosting a Juneteenth celebration through the summer concert series.
“If you look at the evolution of Beyoncé in the most recent years, Beyoncé, as an artist, has chosen to highlight a lot of the historical struggles and current struggles in the African American community, and that’s something that Juneteenth also strives to celebrate — the past reckoning with the present,” said Jeffrey McNair, The City of Chamblee’s special events coordinator. “We’re riding the Beyoncé wave. We’re just coming off last year’s Cowboy Carter tour, which was a big blast, followed by her Renaissance tour, and, most recently, her hosting the Met Gala, so Beyoncé is always a hot topic. Who better to bring to Chamblee than Beyoncé?”
The event will feature food and drink vendors and family-friendly activities. The remaining two concerts will take place on Saturday, July 4, featuring an Independence Day performance by Robin Thicke, and Friday, August 7, with a boy band tribute. The concerts are free and open to the public and will begin at 6:30 p.m. in front of Chamblee City Hall.
