The Springs SPCA has thanked three men from the Mimosa Informal Settlement for staying with an injured dog in the pouring rain until help arrived.
Johannesburg, South Africa (10 May 2026) – Three men from the Mimosa Informal Settlement are being praised for their compassion after refusing to leave an injured dog alone on a cold and rainy night near Eloff this week.
According to the Springs SPCA, the dog was hit by a vehicle late on Monday night along the R555 road. But while many may have driven past, Sibusiso John Ndala, Mateus Da Elisa and Joao Gabriel Filipe stepped in to help.
Not only did they alert the SPCA, but they also stayed with the injured dog in the pouring rain, covering him with a comforter to keep him warm and comforted until help arrived.
The organisation shared its gratitude in a heartfelt message online, describing the men’s actions as a reminder that kindness and humanity still exist.
“In a world that can often feel cold, these three men showed us the true meaning of humanity,” the organisation said.

The injured dog, affectionately described by the SPCA as a “gentle giant”, is now receiving treatment under the care of Dr RG Newby at Selpark Vet, where his injuries are still being assessed.
While the road to recovery remains uncertain, the response from the community has been filled with appreciation for the three men who chose compassion in a difficult moment.
Social media users praised the trio for their selflessness, with many calling them “heroes” and “earth angels”. Others said their actions restored faith in humanity at a time when positive stories can feel few and far between.
For the Springs SPCA, the story is not only about rescuing an injured animal, but also about recognising ordinary people who quietly step up when it matters most. The organisation said it will continue sharing updates on the dog’s recovery in the coming days.
