Convener Unveils Vision for Omidan Ogun Beauty Pageant

The Convener of the Omidan Ogun Beauty Pageant, Miss. Onanuga Damilola Owoyemi, has unveiled an ambitious vision for the cultural pageant, describing it as a platform designed not only to celebrate beauty but also to preserve Ogun State’s rich heritage, empower young women, and promote socio-economic development.

Speaking on the objectives of the initiative, Onanuga said the pageant, organised under Royal Regale, is a prominent cultural and socio-economic empowerment platform established to celebrate the history, character, intelligence, and pride of the people of Ogun State.

According to her, Omidan Ogun is more than a conventional beauty contest, as it seeks to inspire young women to become responsible leaders, cultural ambassadors, and agents of positive change in their communities.

She explained that the initiative would provide contestants with opportunities for leadership development, mentorship, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship training, community service, and advocacy programmes aimed at improving the lives of the girl child.

“Our goal is to showcase the rich cultural heritage of Ogun State, empower our youths, and project the positive image of the state to the global community. This platform goes beyond fashion and beauty; it is about building confident young women who will make meaningful contributions to society,” she said.

Onanuga noted that the pageant also aims to produce African women who embody ambition, global relevance, excellence, and cultural pride while serving as role models for future generations.

She listed the vision of the initiative to include preserving and promoting Ogun State’s cultural heritage, empowering young women across the 20 Local Government Areas of the state, building a registered diaspora community, positioning Ogun as a leading cultural tourism destination, and reuniting maidens from different geopolitical zones through cultural exchange and unity.

She added that contestants would participate in activities showcasing the state’s traditions, tourism potential, local fashion, arts, language, and indigenous values, thereby contributing to the preservation of cultural identity and strengthening community development.

The convener called on government agencies, corporate organisations, traditional institutions, development partners, and well-meaning individuals to support the initiative, stressing that investing in young women remains one of the most effective ways of building a prosperous society.

She therefore expressed optimism that the Omidan Ogun Beauty Pageant would become one of the state’s flagship cultural events, creating opportunities in tourism, entertainment, fashion, and youth development while promoting Ogun State as a centre of excellence, culture, and innovation.
