By Breaking Belize News Staff: The criminal case against 27-year-old Kareem Anderson, accused of attacking two women in separate incidents in Belize City last December, could take a new turn as the court seeks to determine whether the alleged victims still wish to proceed with the matter.
Anderson appeared before the Chief Magistrate in the Belize City Magistrate’s Court last week, where the prosecutor was tasked with obtaining further statements from both virtual complainants indicating whether they intend to continue pursuing the case. The matter was adjourned to mid-August 2026.
Anderson, also known as “Blacker,” has been on remand at the Belize Central Prison since December 29, 2025, when his arraignment was halted after concerns were raised about his mental state. The Chief Magistrate ordered that he undergo a psychiatric evaluation before the case could proceed. Breaking Belize News reported in May that the evaluation had still not been completed, with the court being informed that the prison was unable to facilitate it because of the absence of a government-employed psychiatrist.
The allegations stem from two separate attacks captured on surveillance footage in December. One of the alleged victims was a sanitation worker, who was seen sweeping a street when a man approached and punched her, knocking her to the ground. The second was a 69-year-old mother of a senior magistrate, who was struck in the face while walking along a sidewalk and fell heavily to the pavement.
When Anderson first appeared in court, no plea was taken because the court was not satisfied that he was mentally fit to enter one. His family subsequently told reporters that his behaviour had changed significantly following the death of his father several years earlier and maintained that he needed psychiatric treatment.
The prosecutor is now expected to report back to the court on whether Hamilton and Austin intend to continue with the cases against Anderson.
