A group of friends and partners have once again come together to support underprivileged learners in Kanungu District, collecting scholastic materials through the second edition of the Mark & Friends Charity Drive.
The initiative raised books and study materials that will benefit students at Nyakabungo Girls Secondary School and Nyakabungo Parents Primary School, reinforcing efforts to improve access to quality education through community-led action.
Held at Cornerstone Asset Managers premises in Ntinda, the drive attracted friends, partners, and well-wishers for a day that blended social interaction with philanthropy, all aimed at supporting learners in underserved communities.
This year’s edition, held under the theme “A Book and A Pen,” focused on mobilising essential learning materials, building on the inaugural drive themed “Everybody Deserves to Be Smart.”
Organisers said the collected materials, including storybooks, will be used to stock the library at Nyakabungo Girls Secondary School, while additional supplies will be distributed to pupils at Nyakabungo Parents Primary School to boost access to basic educational resources.
Chief organiser Mark Rwatangabo applauded contributors for sustaining the initiative and extending its impact.
“This initiative shows that even small contributions can make a big difference. The willingness of friends and partners to give back is what keeps this cause alive. Through A Book and A Pen, we hope to inspire reading, build confidence, and support learners on their education journey,” he said.
Beyond donations, the event doubled as a social gathering, featuring activities such as card games, quizzes, video games, and a barbecue, creating a relaxed environment that encouraged participation while supporting a meaningful cause.
Organisers noted that the drive continues to demonstrate how community engagement can be both impactful and enjoyable, bringing together people from diverse backgrounds for a shared purpose.
They also recognised partners including Cornerstone Asset Managers, Tambula Media, Red Ribbon Treats, Food Plus, Games Nation, Custom Assist, and Mediage Limited for their continued support.
The collected materials are expected to be delivered to the beneficiary schools in the coming weeks as part of a coordinated outreach programme aimed at improving learning environments and promoting a culture of reading.
