From stage to runway: the Afrobeats stars walking for Diesel and Vivienne Westwood

In February, Billboard called Rema a “one-hit wonder”. Days later, he was walking the Diesel runway at Milan Fashion Week. Chart analysts and fashion houses clearly read cultural power in different ways. And this year, the houses have been reading Afrobeats very closely.

Rema wasn’t the only Nigerian artist to cross from the front row to the catwalk. Blaqbonez made his runway debut for Vivienne Westwood at Paris Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2026. Style Rave called it a defining moment, a sign that music culture now walks straight onto the runway. It came in a big year for him musically too. “Chanel”, his song with Asake, led Nigeria’s Top 100 for four straight weeks, Afrobeats Magazine reported.

The front row, meanwhile, keeps filling up. Pharrell Williams’ Louis Vuitton shows have placed Rema and Tems close to the catwalk, Style Rave noted. Asake arrived at Jacquemus’ Spring/Summer 26 show in an all-white look. On 22 January, Davido attended Drôle de Monsieur’s Fall/Winter 2026–27 menswear show in Paris, REVOLT reported. In February, Wizkid wore Dior Men’s Autumn/Winter. The relaxed fit and layered jewellery matched the house’s new direction under Jonathan Anderson.

A front-row seat is an endorsement. Walking the show makes the artist part of the collection.

Why the rush? Artists bring audiences that fashion houses can’t reach alone. Style Rave describes a Burna Boy mesh tank or a Tiwa Savage shoe spreading across Instagram and TikTok within hours. A season later, those looks filter into luxury streetwear. The brand gets cultural credibility, and the artist gets a new kind of stage.

We saw that crossover up close in Milan, backstage with Rema for his pre-show ritual: tequila, a cigarette and a prayer. The red carpet tells the same story. Davido’s tuxedo at the 2026 Grammys was a masterclass in intention. Tyla’s image-making shows why she was always meant to be a Bratz.

The front row was step one, and the runway is step two. Campaigns, capsule collections and creative-director titles are the obvious next moves. The bigger question is whether the scene has a single look at all, which we explored in Does Afrobeats have a look?
