Gales Point Manatee celebrates first-ever Gales Point Village Cultural Festival

By Zoila Palma:  On July 18, 2026, the community of Gales Point Manatee celebrated its first-ever Gales Point Village Cultural Festival, honoring its rich African heritage and vibrant Kriol identity.

Following the landmark 2025 inscription of the Krimos Bram and Sambai on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, the festival makes an important step in the community’s ongoing commitment to celebrating and safeguarding its treasured traditions.

The day featured vibrant brokdong and bram music performances, and traditional games. Delicious foods like shingding, crab soup, fish sere, and traditional fire-hearth rice-and-beans and powder bun brought the community together in celebration of cultural heritage.

The Institute for Social & Cultural Research (ISCR) extended congratulations to the people of Gales Point Manatee, Chairlady Nadine Moore and all council members, for successfully organizing this memorable celebration.

“We also extend our sincere appreciation to Hon. Francis Fonseca, Minister of Culture, NICH President Mr. Albert Vaughan, and all sponsors for their invaluable support and continued commitment to safeguarding and celebrating Belize’s living cultural traditions,” ISCR said.
