GNAT, United Party urge integrity as BECE begins

The Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) and the United Party have extended goodwill messages to candidates writing the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), urging them to approach the papers with confidence, discipline and integrity.

In separate statements issued ahead of the nationwide examination, the two organisations also called on teachers and invigilators to strictly adhere to examination rules to ensure a credible and hitch-free process.

A press release signed by the Head of Public Affairs of GNAT, Ms Selasi Gloria Kugblenu, on behalf of the General Secretary, wished the candidates success as they embarked on what it described as “their first giant leap into a future of hope and optimism.”

GNAT encouraged the candidates to enter the examination halls with confidence, observe all regulations governing the exercise, and approach each paper with diligence.

The association expressed confidence in their ability to excel, noting that their performance would make their teachers, parents and the nation proud.

It further urged them to strive for excellence, stressing that success in education and future careers required commitment and hard work.

The statement reminded candidates that, “no lasting glory is won without struggle,” and assured them of the nation’s support as they undertook the examination.

GNAT also encouraged teachers supervising and invigilating the examinations to remain neutral and uphold the highest standards of professionalism by complying fully with all rules, guidelines and regulations.

The association expressed optimism that the examinations would be conducted smoothly and credibly, and wished all candidates the best.

Similarly, the United Party, in a statement signed by its Communication Director and Spokesperson, Mr Solomon Owusu, underscored the critical role of education in national development.

It noted that more than 600,000 candidates were expected to sit in the 2026 BECE, describing the examination as a major milestone in their academic journey.

While wishing the candidates success, the party cautioned them against engaging in examination malpractice.

It also urged invigilators to refrain from aiding candidates to cheat, warning that exposing young people to such practices could breed corruption with long-term consequences for the country.

Moreover, the Party expressed the hope that the examinations would be conducted with integrity, stressing that the ultimate winner should be Ghana.

Both organisations emphasised the need for discipline, fairness and strict adherence to rules to safeguard the credibility of the examination process.
