Here comes hot weather … And also, torrential rains
This is according to the latest forecast report from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC).

There are high chances of drier than normal conditions in August are indicated over most of the region.
For instance, the months of August, September and October are expected to be wetter than usual over eastern areas of the region including Somalia, Ethiopia, as well as a few places in South Sudan, Kenya, Eritrea, Rwanda and Burundi.
This is according to the latest forecast report from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) Climate Prediction and Applications Centre (ICPAC).
Meanwhile also, drier than usual conditions have been predicted to persist in most parts of Sudan, South Sudan, Ethiopia, Uganda, Rwanda, and western Kenya.
On the other hand, the corresponding seasonal temperatures are likely to be warmer than normal over the region.
Rainfall Forecast for August 2026
Drier than usual conditions expected over most parts of the region including Ethiopia, Djibouti, Eritrea, Sudan, South Sudan, Uganda, western and coastal Kenya, and few places in northern Somalia, according to ICPAC.
But again, wetter than normal conditions expected over northern areas of Sudan and isolated areas in Eritrea and Ethiopia.
ICPAC is yet to divulge information on the El-Nino weather spell which is being speculated by other international meteorology agencies as well as local stations in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda.
Temperature Forecast for August 2026
Warmer than usual conditions should be experienced over most parts of the region with the highest probabilities over eastern South Sudan and western to central Ethiopia.
Seasonal Rainfall Forecast for August to October 2026
Wetter-than-normal conditions expected over the eastern Horn, including Somalia, south-eastern and part of western Ethiopia, eastern to coastal Kenya and over a few places in South Sudan, Sudan, Eritrea, Rwanda and northern Burundi.
Drier than usual conditions are expected over much of South Sudan, Sudan, Uganda, Ethiopia, western Kenya, northern Tanzania, and Rwanda.
Seasonal Temperature Forecast for August to October 2026
Warmer than usual temperatures should affect most parts of the Eastern and Horn of Africa regions.
It should be taken into consideration that ICPAC provides regional updates on a regular basis while the National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) provide detailed national and sub-national updates.
