James Talarico to address Black Texans at town hall

Texas state Rep. James Talarico is bringing his campaign for the U.S. Senate to Houston this weekend, inviting residents to share their concerns and hear his vision for taking on what he calls “Big Money and corruption” in Washington.

The community town hall will be held Sunday, July 19, from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Kingdom Builders Center, 6011 W. Orem Drive. Doors open at 1:30 p.m., and the event is free and open to the public.

Talarico said the town hall is designed to be an opportunity for Houstonians – particularly Black Houstonians – to ask questions about any issue important to them while giving him a chance to hear directly from the community.

“I’m hoping to hear directly from the folks in Houston about their concerns, about their hopes, their fears, their dreams,” Talarico said. “As a U.S. senator, my job would be to fight for folks in Houston, everyone.”

While the event is open to all, Talarico said he is particularly interested in engaging with Black Texans and discussing the issues they face.

“We’re hoping to connect directly with Black Texans across the Houston area,” he said. “We’ve seen just in the last year an unprecedented attack on Black Texans, whether it’s the attack on voting rights, the attack on public education, the attack on healthcare, or HBCUs.”

He added that he hopes the conversation will help shape his priorities if elected.

“We’re really hoping at this town hall that we’re going to hear directly from Houstonians, particularly Black Houstonians, about the challenges that we face and how a U.S. senator can make our lives easier and better,” Talarico said.

In addition to the question-and-answer session, attendees will have an opportunity to learn more about the campaign, meet Talarico following the program, and pick up campaign merchandise.
