Japan thrash Banyana Banyana 5-0 in Osaka friendly
South Africa and Japan will meet again in a second international friendly on Tuesday.
Asian champions, Japan have beaten the South African Senior Women’s team, Banyana Banyana 5-nil in an international friendly played in Osaka.
Japan, who are ranked fifth in the FIFA Women’s World ranking, scored twice in the second half, after leading the match 3-nil at halftime.
Japan did not waste any time getting on the scoreboard, they attacked from the outset; with Brighton midfielder, Kiko Seike putting them in the lead.
They came close to making it two-nil moments later, but keeper, Andile Dlamini came to the rescue.
Most of the hosts’ attacks came from the left flank, and they had another chance to add to their goal tally but they did not make it count.
However, before long, their offensive play paid off with Seiko beating Dlamini from close range to complete her brace.
Banyana Banyana had two back-to-back scoring opportunities, but they both went begging.
Attacking Midfielder, Sinoxolo Cesane’s attempt went across the face of the goal before keeper, Ayaka Yamashita stopped another effort by Gabriela Salgado.
Instead, it was the hosts who increased their lead; Bayern Munich striker Momoko Tanikawa beat Dlamini from distance with a powerful shot to make it 3-nil.
After going to the break leading 3-nil, the hosts continued to play offensive football. They dispossessed the visitors before Manchester City forward, Aoba Fujino beat Dlamini on the far post, proving that Japan were just too good for the visitors.
Fujino was at the end of another attack after they ran rings around their opponents, beating Dlamini at close range to make it five nil.
The two sides will meet again in a second international friendly on Tuesday.
