The globally celebrated festival continues to create a space where South African talent, international creatives and music lovers can come together.
Johannesburg, South Africa (27 May 2026) – Johannesburg music lovers are in for another vibrant celebration of culture and creativity as the 15th edition of Fête de la Musique returns to Victoria Yards this June.
One of the best parts? The festival is completely free and once again brings together a mix of established stars, emerging artists and international cultural collaboration all in one space.
Originally launched in France in 1982, Fête de la Musique has grown into a global celebration now hosted in more than 100 countries. In Johannesburg, the festival has become a much-loved annual event over the last 15 years, creating a platform for artists to share their music with the public while giving audiences access to a wide variety of live performances.

This year’s line-up features some exciting South African names, including Zoë Modiga, The Brother Moves On and lordkez, alongside a range of emerging artists selected from more than 300 applications.
Other performers include Renaissance, [kimetsu.], Zykes Madiga, Thoknique, Namakau Star, Tessi Nandi, Thula Khumalo, Measuretutti Vocal Ensemble, Little Music School in the Valley, Lesedi Ntsane and Khulu.
The event is about more than just live performances, it continues to stand out for the way it connects local talent with international creatives and industry experts. This year’s judging panel included music representatives from India, Belgium, Canada, the United Kingdom and South Africa, highlighting the growing global interest in South African music and performance culture.
The festival will also include special collaborations with RedCircle by TEDxJohannesburg, giving members of the public an opportunity to share one-minute ideas on music while enjoying appearances from poets and musicians throughout the day.
Organisers say the response from artists this year was overwhelming.
“What has been particularly exciting to witness is the continued growth in the quality of the applications year after year,” said Brad Holmes. “The artists applying to perform at Fête de la Musique are becoming stronger and more accomplished with each edition.”
Alongside the performances, the event is also partnering with the Keep it CKlean initiative to encourage environmentally conscious festival practices, including waste separation and food waste collection around the venue.
After 15 years in Johannesburg, Fête de la Musique continues to show why it remains one of the city’s most exciting celebrations of local creativity, live music and cultural exchange.
