By Breaking Belize News Staff (HP): Motorists traveling through western Belize this week are being advised to prepare for delays and exercise extreme caution as massive steel bridge components are transported to the Santa Familia Bridge construction site.
The Ministry of Infrastructure Development and Housing announced that extra-wide steel truss segments measuring approximately 20 feet in width will be moved from Georgeville to Santa Familia Village on Friday, June 12, and Saturday, June 13.
The oversized loads will depart Georgeville and travel east along the George Price Highway before passing through the roundabout at the Spanish Lookout Road junction. The convoy will then continue through Spanish Lookout and along the Spanish Lookout to Bullet Tree Road before arriving at the construction site.
According to the ministry, two trips are scheduled each day beginning at 9:00 a.m.
Because of the size of the loads, the trusses may occupy more than one lane and, in some locations, could take up nearly the entire width of the roadway. Drivers traveling in the opposite direction may be required to pull safely off the road to allow the convoy to pass.
Traffic escorts and traffic management personnel will accompany the operation to ensure public safety.
The transportation of the steel trusses marks another significant milestone in the Santa Familia Bridge Project, which is expected to improve connectivity and transportation safety for residents and commuters in the Cayo District.
