ON Wednesday, June 3 just before 3:20 p.m., a female youth was assaulted by an unknown man as she was walking southbound on the sidewalk in the 6300-block of Keith Road in West Vancouver.

A man walking northbound, who appeared to be in his fifties, attempted to wrap his arms around her as he passed. The victim was immediately able to free herself from his grasp and fled to safety.

After extensive canvassing for witnesses and CCTV footage, West Vancouver Police have identified a suspect and are actively investigating his whereabouts. The suspect, who is not local to West Vancouver, is described as a heavy-set man in his fifties with a bushy grey beard. He was last seen wearing a light brown hoodie, blue shorts, black socks and shoes, and appeared to be walking with a limp.

Police say that the available evidence points to this being an isolated incident. However, they encourage all people to remain aware of their surroundings, trust their instincts, and contact police if they feel unsafe.

Additionally, they are asking anyone who may have seen the suspect in the attached photo or who knows of his whereabouts to contact the West Vancouver Police Department at 604-925-7300 and quote file #26-5575.
