Maputo (MOZTIMES) — Mozambique has become a key humanitarian corridor for thousands of foreign nationals fleeing renewed anti-immigrant violence in South Africa, with more than 6,000 Malawian citizens passing through Mozambican territory on their way home amid growing concerns over the vulnerability of migrant communities in the region.
The Mozambican government said on Tuesday that it has assisted 6,156 Malawian nationals since June by transporting them from southern border areas with South Africa to the Zóbuè border post in Tete province, where they cross into Malawi.
