FDH Premiership side Ekhaya FC president and owner William Mpinganjira says he is not interested to contest for the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) presidency.
For a while, his name has been linked with the FAM hot seat ahead of next year’s polls.

Mpingabjira in particular said this in reaction to a recent Weekend Nation article which quoted a Southern Region Football Association official as having said that FAM president Fleetwood Haiya told them during a meeting that he was aware that Mpinganjira’s name had been thrown into fray to contest for the host seat.
But a statement issued by the Cowboys yesterday, signed by their chief executive officer Thando Mhango, reads: “The board of directors and executive management of Ekhaya Football Club wish to assure our supporters, partners, sponsors and the wider football fraternity that our president Mr William Mpinganjira remains fully committed to the growth and long-term vision of the club.”
Reads the statement in part: “This comes at the back of a publication dated 20th June 2026 in the local press indicating that the club president’s intention is to contest in the forthcoming elections for the Football Association of Malawi presidency.
“We wish to formally and unequivocally state that the club president will not be contesting for this position.
“Mr Mpinganjira’s strategic focus remains to propel the club to a continental powerhouse and he believes that the club is at a pivotal stage that requires his full attention, energy and commitment.”
In the said article, the SRFA official was quoted as saying: “[At the meeting] Haiya said while Mpinganjira might have money, he is not experienced compared to him [Haiya] and that he is firm on the ground.”
FAM is scheduled to hold its elective annual general meeting in December next year.
