The Outapi Town Council (OTC) and public broadcaster NBC have strengthened their partnership through the signing of an aimed at giving greater public visibility to development projects and programmes in the town.
The agreement was signed on Monday during a courtesy visit by NBC DG Menesia Muinjo at the Office of the Governor of the Omusati region.
OTC spokesperson Yoolokeni Haidula said the partnership will help the council communicate its development work to a wider audience.
“The agreement will allow us to work closely with NBC in covering and promoting our projects, programmes and activities so that our communities can better understand the work being done by the council,” Haidula said.
The agreement also provides for NBC to support the council through its corporate social responsibility initiatives, strengthening cooperation between public institutions and the media. Haidula said effective communication is important in ensuring that residents are informed about developments and services taking place in their town.
“This partnership is an important step for us because we want our residents to know what the council is doing and also to understand the impact of our development initiatives,” she said.
Haidula said the presence of two NBC staff members designated to the Omusati region provides an opportunity for stronger and more consistent cooperation between local authorities and the national broadcaster.
“We are committed to partnerships that promote development, transparency and public engagement. Working with NBC will help us reach more people with information about the services and development taking place in Outapi,” she said.
Shikongo provided an update on government capital projects currently under way in the region and highlighted their importance to regional development.
He also encouraged local authorities to make greater use of NBC platforms to communicate their development programmes, projects and achievements to the public.
