Nestor double-double leads UNT women’s hoops to 4-1

Megan Nestor dominated the boards and collected her third double-double in five games to help lead the University of North Texas Mean Green women’s basketball team to its fourth win for the season on Saturday, November 22, beating Southern Methodist University 58-55 on the road.

UNT bounced back from their first loss this term, surviving a tough outing in Moody Coliseum. Nestor, a senior pivot from the village of Canaries, pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds, to go with 11 points on just nine shots from the field. She added two blocks and an assist.

The Mean Green and Mustangs battled for the full 40 minutes, with the largest lead of the game being UNT’s 43-36 lead in the third quarter. North Texas built that lead behind an 8-0 run in the quarter, but it was quickly erased as SMU responded with a 7-0 run of its own to tie the game heading into the fourth quarter.

UNT relied on clutch stops and free throws down the stretch to retake and hold the lead. North Texas held SMU to 1-of-9 from the field to close the game and relied on Aysia Proctor to knock down four free throws to ice the game and improve to 4-1 on the season.
