Namib Mills has signed an agreement with its workers, ending nine weeks of industrial action.
“It could have been concluded in a week. It is very unfortunate that it has gone this far, but what is important is that we have reached an agreement,” Namibia Revolutionary Transport Union commander-in-chief Petersen Kambinda said outside of Namib Mills headquarters on Wednesday.
Kambinda said an agreement had been reached and that the union had negotiated for 2026 benefits as well, which would automatically apply on 1 July.
He said striking workers would receive a portion of last year’s bonus on Friday and receive their backpay next week.
“I want to thank fellow Namibians. When our people were on this industrial action, a lot of people passed by here. Those words of encouragement have meant a lot,” he said.
Kambinda said he hoped workers would start their work with discipline and exceed any targets given to them.
Namib Mills has not yet confirmed the end of the strike.
